Brandon Residents: It’s Time to Adjust Water Softener Settings

(Oct. 27, 2025) The City of Brandon’s much awaited softened water supply is now flowing to homes and businesses. The reverse osmosis (RO) system at the expanded water treatment plant has reduced the hardness level, or amount of dissolved minerals in the water, from 24 grains per gallon (gpg) to 12 gpg.

If you have water softener, now is the time to adjust the softening setting to 12 gpg. If you need assistance adjusting your softener setting, please contact your water softener provider for help.

The benefits of softened water include less calcium buildup on appliances and water fixtures which can result in longer appliance and fixture lifespans, and a reduction of home water softener salt usage.

We thank Brandon residents for their patience over the past three years through the water treatment plant expansion project and this year as we brought the RO system online. We’ve all been anxiously waiting for this day to come. Softer water is finally here.

The expansion project increased the Brandon Water Treatment Plant’s capacity from 2,000 gallons per minute to approximately 4,000 gallons per minute. In addition to the new RO system, the water treatment plant utilizes filtration and chemical treatment to provide high-quality drinking water to Brandon residents.
