The following offices will become vacant due to the expiration of the present term or due to the resignation of office of the elective officer:

City Council, Alderman Ward 2, 4-year term

Circulation of nominating petitions may begin on January 31, 2025 and petitions may be filed in the office of the finance officer located at 304 S Main Avenue, Brandon, South Dakota between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., central time, not later than the 28^th day of February 2025, or mailed by the registered mail not later than the 28^th day of February 2025, at 5:00 p.m. central time.

Aspen Park or Ironwood - City Attorney Explanation

TITLE: ASPEN PARK ROAD & PARKING LOT IMPROVEMENTS/EAST IRONWOOD STREET

The following referendum measure was proposed by petition for submission to the voters. This referred measure will not become effective unless approved by majority vote.

City Attorney Explanation: On October 7, 2024, the Brandon City Council passed a motion to expand portions of Aspen Park Road to three lanes and to pave the Aspen Park parking lots to include curbs as an option, and to abandon at this time creating of a second road entrance into the Park from Sioux Boulevard (East Ironwood Street). A referendum petition was filed to stop the City from proceeding forward at this time with the Aspen Park Road and parking lot improvements and to instead require the City to construct the East Ironwood Street entrance into the Park.

A vote of "Yes" will require the Council to create East Ironwood Street for an entrance to the Park, and to not proceed at this time with the Aspen Park Road and parking lot improvements.

A vote of "No" will require the Council to proceed with the Aspen Park Road and parking lot improvements, and not proceed at this time with creating the East Ironwood Street for an entrance into the Park.

Reclassification of a Portion of Aspen Park Land - City Attorney Explanation

TITLE: RECLASSIFICATION OF A PORTION OF ASPEN PARK LAND

The following referendum measure was proposed by the Brandon City Council related to reclassifying and selling approximately 0.16 acres of Aspen Park land.

City Attorney Explanation:A request was made that the City of Brandon sell approximately 0.16 acres that the City purchased in 2012 when it purchased a larger portion of land. For the City to sell land that is designated for park use, the majority of the voters must first approve the change of use from park use. If approved, then the City will advertise the land for sale and sell it to the highest bidder. The City Council has determined it does not need the 0.16 acres for operations. The request was made by the adjacent landowner who would like to purchase the land to build a driveway on the land. The land is located north of and adjacent to 1509 S Split Rock Blvd.

A vote of "Yes" will authorize the City to reclassify and then place the land for sale.

A vote of "No" will prohibit the Council from reclassifying and selling the land.
